Popular and Solidarity Financial Sector’s Evolution in Ecuador 2015 - 2020

Abstract
The Ecuadorian financial cooperative sector to achieve its sustainability and permanence in a globalized and competitive environment in attention to its fundamental characteristics, needs to have scientific support on its evolution, performance and contribution to the real economy, in order to provide a baseline effective for the development of public policies, strategies and lines of action that strengthen the sector. For its study, a non-experimental research design was used with a quantitative, longitudinal and documentary methodology. This approach allowed characterizing the Ecuadorian cooperative structure; that by 2020 has 8,118,702 members, presents a sustainable growth in its assets and its patrimony during the study period; the financial indicators have a favorable performance in terms of bank default, liquidity and coverage. It can be concluded that it is a solid financial structure at the national level and is positioned in the Top 10 of the Latin American and Caribbean ranking.
